NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry Parks and Recreation Football Camp began at Setzler Field on Tuesday evening, and prior to the start of camp, the approximately 40 youngsters got a special visit from Newberry College head football coach Zak Willis.

"You guys are the most important group I talk to every year because this is where you start to learn the fundamentals," Willis told the group.

Willis stressed that the fundamental techniques and tactics of the game are not the only fundamentals necessary to become a successful football player and a successful person.

"There's another set of fundamentals that will make not just a good player, but a good person," Willis said. "You've got to have good grades and good character. Without those two things, you won't become a successful person."

The camp wraps up action at Setzler Field this evening. Willis and the Indians report to camp today, with the first game scheduled for September 1 against Chowan. Kickoff for the Hall of Fame game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
