NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College offensive lineman Heath Benedict has been named a first team preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services, it was announced today.

The website, which can be found at www.condraft.com, primarily focuses on players that will be eligible for the 2008 NFL Draft. Therefore, this particular All-American team is mainly comprised of players in their final year of eligibility.

Heath Benedict, a senior offensive lineman from Greer, S.C., was the 2006 winner of the South Atlantic Conference's Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is awarded to the league's best offensive lineman. A three-year starter, Benedict was a first team all-Southeast Region selection by three separate publications, while earning one first team All-American selection.

Benedict is the only South Atlantic Conference player on the CDS All-American team. Defensive lineman Andre Bernardi of North Greenville University, Newberry's opponent in Week Three, is also on the all-American listing.

This honor marks Benedict's third preseason All-American honor for the 2007 season. He was previously tabbed a first team preseason All-American by Lindy's College Football Preview and Street and Smith's College Football Yearbook.

Benedict and the Indians begin the defense of their first-ever South Atlantic Conference championship on September 1, as Newberry hosts Chowan University.
