NEWBERRY, S.C. - Derrell Mills has been named the National Defensive Player-of-the-Week by the Don Hansen Football Gazette, which was released on Wednesday evening.

Mills had a career-day on Saturday as the 11th-ranked Newberry College Indians defeated Tusculum 27-23.  The sophomore recorded 16 total tackles, eight of which came as solos.  He also added an interception and one pass breakup.  Most importantly, however, the Gray Court, SC native saved the game for the Indians when he stripped the Pioneer ball-carrier and raced 40 yards into the end zone for the game-winning score.

This is the third accolade of the week for Mills.  Earlier this week, he was named the South Atlantic Conference’s Defensive Player-of-the-Week as well as being tabbed by d2football.com as the National Defensive Player-of-the-Week.
