ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College football players Josh Stepp and Derrell Mills have been named the South Atlantic Conference’s Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Week, announced by league officials on Sunday evening.  The Indians have now had six different players earn player-of-the-week honors this season.

Stepp earns his third player-of-the week honor for the season.  The senior quarterback completed 20-of-35 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns in the Indians’ 27-23 victory over Tusculum.  The Pelion, SC native leads the NCAA in passing efficiency with a 174.11 rating.

Mills earns defensive honors after having a career day on Saturday.  The sophomore tallied 16 total tackles, eight of which were solos.  He also added an interception and scored the game-winning touchdown when he stripped the ball from Tusculum ball-carrier Patrick King and raced into the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown.  The Gray Court, SC native tops the SAC in interceptions with six.

Newberry will face Lenoir-Rhyne on Senior Day on Saturday evening at Setzler Field.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
