Zimmerman, Ransom Earn SAC POTW Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College wide receiver Tymere Zimmerman and defensive end Tony Ransom have been named the Offensive and Defensive Player’s-of-the-Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

Zimmerman caught 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the 17th-ranked Indians downed the 22nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs 36-24.  Zimmerman showed off his athletic abilities as well in the game by throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass to Alex Haynes.  The Bennettsville, SC native leads the squad in receptions (38), receiving yards (438) and is tied for the team-lead with five receiving touchdowns.

Ransom was a key component on the Newberry defense which limited Wingate to just one yard rushing.  The Marion, SC native recorded seven tackles, six coming as solos.  He also contributed a sack, two quarterback hurries, and returned a fumble for a 14-yard touchdown.
