Haynes, Mills, and Tindal Earn Player of the Month Honors

NEWBERRY, S.C. - A trio of Newberry College football players in Alex Haynes, Derrell Mills, and Kelton Tindal were named the Newberry Touchdown Club Players-of-the-Month at the club’s monthly meeting on Monday evening.

Haynes, a junior from Summerville, SC, earned the offensive honors for the month.  He leads the Indians and the South Atlantic Conference in rushing yards with 723.  This season, he has rushed for over 100 yards in four straight games and has been earned Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors in the SAC.

Mills, a sophomore from Gray Court, SC, earned defensive honors for the month.  He has come on strong as of late in the secondary for the Indians.  Mills leads the team and the SAC in interceptions with four.  He is currently fourth on the team in tackles with 19 and is tied for second in pass break-ups with three.

Tindal, a freshman from Sumter, SC, took home the special teams honor for the month.  He leads the Indians with 129 kickoff return yards on the season.  Tindal has also become a valuable player as a wide receiver, catching 14 passes for 257 and two touchdowns.  His 18.4 yards per-reception tops the team.

The Indians will be in action on Saturday evening as they face Wingate University at 7:00 pm at Setzler Field.
