WACO, TX - Newberry College retained their ranking at number 18 this week in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Tuesday morning.

The Indians (6-0, 2-0 SAC) have set a new school record for consecutive wins to start the season.  The 1945 squad won their first five games before losing in the sixth game.

Newberry College received 252 points this week after a 21-14 Homecoming victory over Catawba last Saturday.  The Indians, along with Carson-Newman College, a team that Newbery College defeated two weeks ago, are the only ranked South Atlantic Conference teams.  Carson-Newman is ranked 15th this week.

In other national polls, the Indians are ranked 19th in the Top 25 poll.  Newberry College moved up one spot after being ranked 20th last week.  In the Don Hansen poll, the Indians are ranked 18th this week, the highest-ranking SAC school in that poll.

Yesterday, Newberry College was named as the No. 1 team in the Southeast Region in the NCAA’s weekly region polls.
