Haynes Named South Atlantic Conference Player-of-the-Week

NEWBERRY, S.C.Newberry College running back Alex Haynes has been named the South Atlantic Conference’s Offensive Player-of-the Week on Monday by league officials.

 

Haynes had a big day in the Indians’ 21-14 victory over Catawba, rushing for 162 yards on 21 carries and scoring the game-winning touchdown with 1:49 remaining in the game.  The junior averaged 7.7 yards per-carry on Saturday.

 

Haynes, a Summerville, SC native, leads Newberry and the SAC in rushing with 616 yards.  He is also tops in the league in all-purpose yards, with 715.

 

Haynes becomes the third Indian this season to earn player-of-the-week honors.  Linebacker Will Newell was named the Defensive Player-of-the-Week on September 11 while quarterback Josh Stepp has taken home the offensive honors twice; on September 18 and October 2.
