ROCK HILL, SC - Newberry College quarterback Josh Stepp has been named the South Atlantic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by league officials on Monday morning. This marks the second time during the 2006 season that Stepp has earned offensive player-of-the-week honors.
Stepp was 21-of-25 for 261 yards and three touchdowns as he led the 24th-ranked Indians to a decisive 32-18 victory over sixth-ranked Carson-Newman. The senior also became the school’s all-time leader in passing yards during the contest. Stepp also contributed 11 rushes for 86 yards while completing passes to six different receivers.
The Pelion, SC native leads all NCAA Division II quarterbacks in passing efficiency with a 214.2 average. For the season, he is 71-of-96 for 1,092 yards and 13 touchdowns. Stepp has yet to throw an interception during the 2006 season.
The Indians will face Catawba for homecoming on Saturday evening at Setzler Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
