Benedict, Zimmerman Tabbed D2Football.Com Preseason All-Americans

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College offensive lineman Heath Benedict and wide receiver Tymere Zimmerman have been named to the 2006 D2football.com Preseason All-America First Team, announced on Monday.

Benedict, a junior, earns his second preseason accolade of 2006. Earlier this summer, he was named as a Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference first team selection. In 2005, the Greer, S.C. native was a first team All-SAC selection as well as being named to the All-Southeast Region team by D2football.com.

Zimmerman earns his third preseason accolade of 2006. Earlier this summer, he was named to the Preseason All-SAC first team as well as being named a Preseason College Football All-American by Street & Smith’s. The senior from Bennettsville, S.C. holds every single-season and career receiving record at Newberry. He is in range of becoming the SAC all-time leader in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

The Indians will kick off the 2006 season on Saturday, September 2 at Setzler Field as they play host to Edward Waters College at 1:30 p.m.
