ROCK HILL, S.C. - The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week. Earning honors for the week ending on October 29 are Presbyterian quarterback Zach Ellis, Newberry linebacker Will Newell and Lenoir-Rhyne receiver Evan Huggard. Ellis was named Offensive Player of the Week, Newell Defensive Player of the Week and Huggard was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.
Newell, a 6-2, 230-pound freshman from Columbia, S.C., recorded 13 tackles, including nine solo hits in the Indians' 28-10 road win at Mars Hill. Newell forced a third-quarter fumble that was returned for 30 yards and Newberry's first TD of the day. He also recovered a fourth quarter fumble, thwarting a Mars Hill scoring opportunity.
The SAC Football Players of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors.
