ROCK HILL, S.C. - The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week.  Earning honors for the week ending on October 1 are Carson-Newman quarterback Justin Long, Catawba linebacker Ron Ellington and Newberry punter/kicker Ryan Lukshis. Long was named Offensive Player of the Week, Ellington Defensive Player of the Week and Lukshis was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.

Lukshis, a 5-11, 155-pound sophomore from Irmo, S.C., scored 10 points in Newberry's home loss to nationally-ranked Carson-Newman.  The Dutch Fork High School alum connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including a career long 43-yarder just before halftime as the Indians led 22-21 over the No. 15 Eagles.  He also averaged 40.2 yards on his five punt attempts, including a long of 50 yards and one inside the 20-yard line.

The SAC Football Players of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors.
