KINGSVILLE, TEXAS - Senior cornerback Jonathan Lyles (Camden, S.C.) has been selected to represent Newberry College on the East All-Star squad for the 12th annual Whataburger Cactus Bowl game on Friday, January 7, 2005.  The game, a showcase of the best senior football players in Division II, will be held in Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Javelina Stadium. The broadcast will begin at 7:30 on FOX Southwest.

Lyles, coming off a first-team All-South Atlantic Conference season, is the SAC's only defensive representative on the team.  Seven other players from the conference were invited to participate.

This makes the second all-star game for Lyles this year, as he and fellow Indian Jeff Williams (Pelion, S.C.) played in the National Football Foundation's East Coast Bowl in Petersburg, Va. over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Lyles recorded a tackle, and Williams booted five punts for an average of 43 yards per punt.  Williams is currently an alternate for the Cactus Bowl.
