ROCK HILL, S.C. - For his part in the Newberry Indians' 28-25 football victory over Presbyterian Saturday, sophomore defensive lineman Tony Ransom (Marion, S.C.) was named the South Atlantic Conference defensive player of the week, conference officials announced Sunday.

The 6-4 defensive end recorded three sacks and forced two fumbles in the win.  The former Garden City Junior College standout totaled six tackles on the day and also had a pass break-up and a quarterback hurry.

Ransom finished the season with 16 tackles for losses and a league-leading 10.5 sacks.

The SAC players of the week are determined by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors.
