INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Several Newberry Indians are listed in Division II football statistical categories as numbers were released by the NCAA on Monday.
Sophomore quarterback Josh Stepp (Pelion, S.C.), ranks tenth among all Division II signal callers in total offense, averaging 292.6 yards per contest. Senior punter Jeff Williams (Pelion, S.C.) ranks fourth nationally in punting average (43.1 yards per kick).
Several members of the Indian defense are ranked nationally in different categories. Defensive lineman Tony Ransom (Marion, S.C.) is tied for 15th in Division II football for sacks per game with 0.9. Junior linebackers Stephen Henry (Belle Glade, Fla.) and Terrance Leverett are tied for ninth with nine others in the forced fumbles category (.43 ffpg).
The offense is ranked 30th in both passing and total offense, with 256.1 ypg and 420.9 ypg, respectively.
