ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry sophomore quarterback Josh Stepp, Mars Hill senior linebacker Colby Simmons, and Wingate senior punter/placekicker Chris Brewer have been named the South Atlantic Conference Players of the Week for week four of the football season, conference officials announced today.

Stepp (Pelion, S.C.) earns the Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 21-7 win over Coastal Carolina University.  He amassed 300 yards of total offense, 151 passing and 149 rushing, running for one touchdown and setting up another with a 32-yard dash to the Coastal one yard line to set up the insurance score.  Coming into Saturday's game, Stepp was #1 in NCAA Division II rankings for pass efficiency.

Colby (Lithia Springs, Ga.) led a defense that held University of Virginia-Wise to only 57 yards rushing, leading all players with 15 tackles.  He had 11 solo tackles, three sacks, two additional tackles for loss, and a quarterback hurry in the Lions' 47-13 victory.

Brewer (Weddington, N.C.) boomed three punts for an average of 52.7 yards per punt in Wingate's 34-24 win at North Greenville Saturday. Two of his three punts traveled 50+ yards and landed inside NGC's 20, with the long punt a 62-yarder.

The players of the week are selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors.  The South Atlantic Conference is comprised of eight colleges and universities in North and South Carolina and Tennessee.
