ROCK HILL, S.C. - The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week for the second week of the 2004 season.  Earning honors for the week ending on September 4 are Newberry defensive lineman Tony Ransom, Newberry wide receiver Antwan Surratt, and Carson-Newman quarterback Shane Kelley.

Ransom, a 6-4, 235, sophomore from Marion, S.C., totaled three and a half sacks in the Newberry win over Concord.  The former Garden City Junior College standout was in on eight total tackles with five and half for losses.  The sacks totaled up to 40 yards in losses.

Surratt, a 5-8, 175, redshirt freshman from Spartanburg, S.C., helped the Indians to a 43-12 win over Concord on Saturday.  The former Spartanburg High School product averaged 33 yards on four kickoff returns, including one for 92 yards and a score.  That touchdown sealed the win for Newberry in the third quarter.

The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the conference schools.
