NEWBERRY, S.C. - Motorists passing by Ringer Enterprises on Highway 76 in Newberry last Saturday had the opportunity to donate to a good cause and come away with a clean car, as the Newberry football program teamed with the Newberry Shrine Club to raise over $600 for the Shriners Hospital in Greenville.
J.D. Shealy, president of the local chapter, and Newberry defensive coordinator Todd Knight were instrumental in setting up the fundraiser.
"We were very proud of the kids and the way they responded when we asked for their help," Knight praised the young men on the football team. "We thank the public for their response as well; there were cars from the time we started until we finished. We had to ask the latecomers to come back next year!"
Head coach Zak Willis commented on the car wash. "It was a tremendous even that goes to help crippled and burned children. These football players were never better role models than when they're helping less fortunate individuals."
