Newberry announces football signees, transfers
Thursday, February 12, 2004 | by by NC Sports Information

NEWBERRY, S.C. – On the first day of football signing period, eighteen players from South Carolina and Georgia signed National Letters of Intent to play for Newberry head football coach Zak Willis next season.  In addition, the program announced former junior and community college players and other transfers who will be a part of  what should be an exciting 2004 season.

Altogether, the Indians will see 17 new offensive players (10 of those linemen) and 10 new defenders.  Eleven of the 18 prep stars earned All-State or All-Region accolades as seniors, and two community college transfers were All-Americans at that level.

Willis expects to improve on his 3-7 inaugural season with the help of today’s signings and those to follow.  Newberry fans will have to wait until August 28, when the Indians open the season on the road at Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.
