ROCK HILL, SC – The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 13, 2003. Earning honors this week are Newberry’s Derrick Higgins, Tellex Lanham, of Mars Hill, and Ricardo Colclough, of Tusculum.
Higgins, a 6-3, 190, freshman wideout from Darlington, SC, set school records with 200 yards receiving and four touchdowns in a 54-20 win over North Greenville. The Lamar High School product made five catches for an even 200 yards. His scores came from 19, 39, 50 and 68 yards.
Lanham, a 5-10, 255, senior defensive lineman from Trenton, SC, was in on nine tackles, including four sacks, in a 37-14 win over UVA-Wise. The former Strom Thurmond standout added pass break-up and a pair of hurries.
Colclough, a 6-0, 180, senior defense back from Sumter, SC/Sumter HS, had a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns in a 65-10 win over Morehouse. In the first half he had a school-record 97 yards return and opened the second half with one of 92 yards. He also tied a school record with two interceptions in the win and had a touchdown saving pass break-up.
The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the conference schools.
