ROCK HILL – Newberry shortstop Colin Allman has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for his sensational play in Newberry's four games last week.
Allman hit .588 (10-for-17) with three doubles, a triple, and four home runs during the week, compiling 11 RBI with nine runs scored and slugging an incredible 1.588 during a 3-1 week for the Wolves that saw them trounce Lander 15-1 before taking two of three games at SAC foe Mars Hill.
Allman's best work came in the opening game of the Mars Hill series. He was 4-for-6 at the plate in the contest with a triple and three home runs, including a grand slam in the 11th inning of Newberry's 11-6 win. He had seven RBI and hit home runs in consecutive at-bats in the 10th and 11th innings to lead Newberry to a win.
He raised his batting average from .333 to .397 during a week that saw him record at least two hits, and at least one for extra bases, in every game, extending his hitting streak to 13 games and his reached-base streak to 19 games dating back to the 2017 season. He scored three runs in last Tuesday's win over Lander, had two hits in Saturday's second game with Mars Hill, and closed the week with two runs scored, three RBI, and a stolen base in Sunday's series clinching win over the Lions.
Allman currently leads the SAC with a .765 slugging percentage and ranks in the top 10 in total bases (3rd - 52), doubles (4th - 8), home runs (4th - 5), on-base percentage (.494 - 6th), batting average (.397 - 7th), and triples (1 - 8th).
