PEMBROKE, N.C. – Newberry appears in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast Region Top 10 for the first time this season, checking in at No. 9.
The Wolves are locked in a four-way tie for first in the South Atlantic Conference after going 16-2 in their last 18 games, a hot streak that commenced with a thrilling 5-4 win over Erskine on March 15. Since that time, Newberry has won 11 of its 12 SAC contests to rise from seventh place in the league standings into the lead.
The NCBWA top 10 teams in each region are selected by voting members of the association. The first official NCAA regional rankings, which will be used to determine the field selected to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, will be released on April 26.
The top seven teams from the Southeast Region will be selected into the 56-team field, with a final announcement scheduled for May 14. Newberry is seeking its first-ever national tournament appearance since joining the NCAA.
