Jeff Sneed named third team CoSIDA Academic All-America®
Thursday, June 2, 2016 | by Josh Manck, Assistant AD for Athletic Communications

AUSTIN, Texas - The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Baseball Division II Teams have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Newberry College catcher Jeff Sneed has earned Third Team Academic All-America honors for the 2016 season.

The 2016 South Atlantic Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Sneed adds to an impressive list of accolades from his redshirt junior season. Sneed is the second Newberry baseball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, joining Chas Goodwin, who was a second team honoree in 2014.

Sneed is the 20th Academic All-America winner in Newberry College history.

"Jeff Sneed is a generous young man who values hard work and personal achievement," said Newberry head baseball coach Russell Triplett. "Jeff understands that worthwhile accomplishments are gained through sacrifice and perseverance; he is intrinsically motivated to be the best at whatever he does. His dedication to professional success is impressive, but it’s his work ethic that has made him an influential role model and leader within the Newberry College baseball program and community."

Sneed - who transferred to Newberry from Louisburg College - has earned Dean's List honors in every semester at both Newberry & Louisburg. He has been named to the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, won the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award and is a Newberry College Student-Athlete Advisory Council member. He has volunteered with the Irmo/Chapin Recreation Commission's "Grasshoppers" therapeutic recreation baseball team and has assisted as an instructor at free baseball camp.

Sneed is a member of Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. He has designed publicity materials for the Prosperity City Rescue Squad and was the winner of the "Foxhole" reliability award from his teammates. Sneed carries a 3.90 grade point average with majors in business administration and graphic design.

Sneed hit .314 in his redshirt junior season and made 52 starts as one of the most reliable and durable catchers in the country. He had 61 hits and 31 runs scored with 34 RBIs. He had eight doubles and three home runs and threw out 17 potential base stealers from behind the plate.
