Wolves travel to Due West for single game on Tuesday

DUE WEST – The Newberry College baseball team hits the road on Tuesday, February 16 when they play Erskine College at 2 p.m.  The Wolves are 8-1-1 going into tomorrow’s non conference game.

downed Young Harris College, 10-7 in the nightcap of the Newberry Round Robin, on Sunday night.

Jeff Sneed (Cumming, Ga.) went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring one run while driving in three.Michael Gonzalez (Wilsonville, Ore.) and Derek Olenchuk (Irmo, S.C.) both went 1-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs apiece.

Nolan Schrenker (Valrico, Fla.) put two runs on the board while Robert Kosch (Clemson, S.C.), Jacob Bass (North Augusta, S.C.), Daymon Totherow (Danville, Va.), and all scored one run each.

Hunter Hill (Little Mountain, S.C.) started the game on the bump, pitching 5.0 innings. Hill gave up 10 hits and six runs while walking one. Mike DeLee (Dorchester, S.C.) pitched 3.1 innings, tallying three strikeouts and giving up one run. Marshall Rentz (Charleston, S.C) tossed 0.2 innings, tallying the save. Rentz gave up one hit and struck out one.

The Flying Fleet of Erskine College swept both games of a non conference double header from Salem International on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 10-2 and game two 9-1. 

In game one, Chris Rave was 4-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Trevor Wood was 3-4 with a triple and two RBI's to lead the Fleet.  Chaz Davey had three hits and Tyler Phillips added two.  Alex Calvert (2-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six in a complete game performance.

In game two, Wood was 2-3 with a double and two RBI's and Sam Cothran was 2-4 with a home run, double and three runs scored to lead the Erskine offense. Phillips was also 2-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Zack Bowers (2-0) picked up the win allowing one run on three hits and striking out four in five innings of work.

The Wolves host Davis & Elkins for a three-game series on Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20. The single game on Friday will begin at 5 p.m. and on Saturday the doubleheader will start at noon.
