Wolves picked third in SAC preseason poll; Bradley and Nations placed on All-SAC teams

ROCK HILL- The Newberry College baseball team has been picked third in the annual South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced Monday. Outfielder JoJo Bradley was named to All-SAC First Team and relief pitcher Daniel Nations was named to All-SAC Second Team.

Catawba takes the first place spot with 110 points followed by Tusculum in second with 99 points. Newberry rounds out the top three with 87 points. Wingate followed at No. 4 with 84 points, while Lincoln Memorial picked up 71 points to place fifth in the poll.  At No. 6 was Lenoir-Rhyne, who notched 66 points.  Carson-Newman came in seventh with 56 points, ahead of Anderson, who notched 51 points.  Mars Hill took the No. 9 slot as it posted 38 points.  Brevard (28 points) and Coker (24 points) finished the poll.

In the 2014-15 season, Bradley hit .351 for the season (68-for-194) with 11 doubles, four home runs, 39 RBIs and scored 45 times. He led the South Atlantic Conference and was fourth in all of NCAA Division II with seven triples on the year, tying standout Jacques Gilliam in the Newberry record books for the second most triples in a season. Bradley carried a .407 on-base percentage and a .541 slugging percentage. He was named a second team All-South Atlantic Conference selection while also picking up SAC All-Tournament team accolades at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season. 

Nations comes into the 2015-16 season as a senior relief pitcher. As a junior in the 2014-15 season, Nations made 24 appearances with one start for a 1.41 ERA. He tossed 32.0 innings and threw 45 strikeouts. As a sophomore, Nations received a Honorable Mention All-SAC after appearing in 26 games of relief work. He compiled a 5-2 record for a 3.40 ERA and recorded three saves and 44 strike outs in 47.2 innings of work.

The Wolves start their season in Florida at the South Atlantic Conference/Sunshine State Challenge. The first game is on Friday, January 29, at 2:30 p.m. against No. 20 Lynn University.
