CHAPIN – The Newberry College baseball and softball teams will play an exhibition game against the Chapin Grasshoppers this Thursday at 6 p.m. at Chapin Elementary School.
The Wolves’ baseball and softball teams have been in the midst of fall practices and scrimmages, and will take a break from their normal schedule to face the Grasshoppers.
The Grasshoppers are a team of 11 players ranging in age from two to nine years old with various special needs. The team is sponsored by Jumpstart Pediatrics of Chapin and the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission.
“We’ve been practicing hard all fall, but this game with the Grasshoppers is one we’ve really been looking forward to,” said Newberry College head baseball coach Russell Triplett. “I hope the fans can make it to tomorrow’s game and support the Grasshoppers!”
“This is a game we’ve had circled on the schedule ever since the opportunity came up,” said Newberry College head softball coach Ciria Triplett. “This will be a great chance for fans to come cheer on some great kids!”
The Newberry College athletic department encourages Wolves' fans in the Chapin-Irmo area to show up at Chapin Elementary on Thursday to cheer on the Grasshoppers.
