GREENSBORO, N.C. – Newberry senior baseball standouts Albert Baur and Wesley Camp have been named all-Southeast region for the third time this year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings, which was released Tuesday morning. Baur was elected to the first team at first base while Camp was a second team starting pitcher.

The duo mark the third straight year Newberry has been represented on the ABCA squad. Baur and Camp have now been named all-region selections by all three publications (Daktronics, NCBWA and ABCA), joining Ryan Cranmer (Newport, N.C.) as the only three players in recorded program history to accomplish the feat in a single year.

Baur, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., notches the fourth all-region decoration in his career after being named a first team All-SAC and NCBWA and DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region selection at first base this season. He posted a .427 batting average (88-for-206) with 24 doubles, 16 home runs, 59 RBIs and scored 54 times. The left-handed hitter slugged .796 and reached base at a .510 clip in 2015, en route to setting the single marks in the Newberry record books in hits, doubles, and slugging percentage. He ranked in the top five in the SAC in hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

Camp, a senior from Pelion, S.C., tallied his fourth career all-region plaudit after receiving first team All-SAC and second team NCBWA and first team DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region nods as a starting pitcher in 2015. The southpaw amassed a 9-2 overall record, tying the Newberry all-time mark for wins in a season, while tallying 77 strikeouts and a 2.82 ERA in 83.0 innings pitched. He boasted a 6.42:1 strikeout to walk ratio while the opposition hit a mere .272 off him for the year. In the league rankings, Camp’s name finished in the top 10 in innings pitched, strikeouts, strikeouts per game and ERA.

The 2015 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region teams are voted on by members of the ABCA. All-region first team selections advance to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America ballot, which will be announced on May 25.
