ROCK HILL – The Newberry Wolves will enter the 2015 South Atlantic Conference baseball tournament as the second seed in the eight team event, the conference office announced Sunday morning. The tournament is being held at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C., the home of the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plains collegiate summer league. The contests will take place on Thursday, April 23, through Monday, April 27.

Catawba captured their third straight SAC title on Saturday afternoon to take the first seed in next week’s tournament. The Indians finished the season with a 23-6 league record.

Newberry finished the regular season with a 33-16 overall record to complete back-to-back 30 win seasons for the first time in recorded history. Of the 33 wins, 21 came in South Atlantic Conference play (21-8), the first time Newberry has had 20 wins in SAC play since joining the league in 1998. This is also the first time Newberry has finished in top three in the final regular season standings.

The Wolves completed the 2015 campaign on a 13 game winning streak that included four straight SAC series sweeps over Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman and Coker. The 13 game streak is tied for the second longest active streak in NCAA Division II baseball and the longest streak in recorded Newberry history, dating back through 1981.

Tusculum will be the third seed with an 18-11 SAC record while Lincoln Memorial is fourth with a 15-12 mark in league play. Wingate (15-15) assumes the fifth position just ahead of Anderson (14-15) in sixth.

Brevard (13-16) takes the seventh seed while Carson-Newman (12-18) rounds out the eight team field as the final seed.

Thursday’s games will be singles elimination as Wingate will take on Carson-Newman and Anderson will face Brevard in a win or go home scenario. The double-elimination portion of the tournament will begin on Friday with Catawba taking on Thursday’s lowest advancing seed at noon.

The Wolves will play the highest advancing seed from Thursday’s games at approximately 3:45 p.m. followed by Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial at approximately 7:30 p.m. The rest of the schedule is listed below.
