ROCK HILL – Albert Baur continues to pile on honors and awards he has received throughout his four year career as he picked up another this week. Baur has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time in his tenure, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

This is the Wolves' second AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honoree this season as Brandan Sheridan (Jacksonville, Fla.) was bestowed the distinction on March 31.

Baur hit .600 last week with nine hits, including three doubles and two home runs. The Philadelphia, Pa., native drove in six runs and scored five times to lead Newberry to a 4-0 record.

In the 13-5 victory over USC Aiken on Tuesday, the first baseman went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. His home run marked another career milestone as he blasted his first grand-slam in a Wolves’ uniform, sealing the win in the bottom of the eighth.

During his first at bat of the weekend versus Carson-Newman, the left-handed batter took the first pitch he saw deep in the trees beyond the right-field fence for his second home run of the week, his 14th of the season.

For the weekend the senior tallied six hits in 10 trips to the plate with a pair of doubles, a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored in the series sweep of the Eagles. He has led Newberry to three straight sweeps for the first time in recorded history and has the Wolves riding a nine game winning streak.

Monday versus Erskine, Baur totaled three hits in six plate appearances with a home run and four RBIs in the Wolves' 18-6 victory.

For the season he is hitting .416 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. He ranks in the top five in the league in hits, runs, doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

Baur will lead the Wolves tonight in the final meeting between Newberry and Erskine at the Smith Road Complex. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
