Brandan Sheridan tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week

ROCK HILL – Newberry College outfielder Brandan Sheridan was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

Sheridan, a Jacksonville, Fla., native had a monster week for the Wolves, batting .545 with 12 hits in 22 at bats. He tallied five extra-base hits that included four doubles and a home run that amounted to a .864 slugging percentage. The Paxon HS graduate boasted a .560 on-base percentage while also swiping two bases in the five games.

He led the Wolves to a 4-1 record that included a non-conference victory over Anderson on Tuesday night and then a SAC road series sweep of the Wingate Bulldogs to put Newberry in third place in the South Atlantic Conference standings.

The senior had multiple hits in four of the five games with a pair of three hit outings and one four hit contest. His best showing of the week was in the loss to Belmont Abbey where he amassed three hits with a double, a three-run home run, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Against Anderson he tabbed two hits in three trips to the plate while driving in three runs and scoring one.

For the weekend at Wingate the centerfielder was 7-for-13 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored in the 7-4, 11-1 and 6-3 wins for the Wolves.

Sheridan is 11th in the conference with 44 hits and ninth with a .370 batting average. He also ranks in the top 10 in doubles (3rd), triples (7th), stolen bases (5th) and sacrifice flies (5th).

This is the first time a Newberry player has been bestowed player of the week honors this season and this is the first distinction for Sheridan in his career.
