NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves took a big South Atlantic Conference series win over the weekend against the Tusculum Pioneers to move to 16-14 overall and 9-8 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves took the Friday night game 9-6, dropped the first contest on Saturday 3-0 but rebounded with a 5-3 win on the shoulders of Cole Cromer (North Augusta, S.C.) who threw a complete game to pick up his fourth win of the season. Newberry now sits in fifth place in the SAC standings after the series win. 

Newberry will play host to the Anderson Trojans for the fourth time this season on Tuesday for the fifth and final contest between the two teams in 2015.

Anderson got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 14-10 record before they dropped three games to the Catawba College Indians this past weekend in league play. The Trojans took the first game of the season from the Wolves with a 7-1 decision but Newberry has taken the next three games with scores of 4-1, 6-2 and 9-7.  

Anderson is led by junior catcher LJ Newman who had his 13-game hitting streak snapped in the final game aginst Catawba. He is leading hte Trojans with a .408 batting average with 12 doubles, four home runs and 20 runs batted in. As a team Anderson is batting .309 with 281 hits, including 87 going for extra bases. On the mound they have a 5.91 ERA with 177 strikeouts and a .319 opposition batting average.

Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) continues to pace the offense for Newberry with a .391 batting average with nine home runs and 34 runs driven in. He also carries a .783 slugging percentage and ranks in the top 10 in the SAC in all three categories. Ben Herring (Hopkins, S.C.) was 5-for-5 in the last meeting between the two teams with a two doubles, a triple and three runs scored. 

Anderson will send freshman right-hander Andrew Dill to the mound for the final match-up. Dill has yet to have a decision in 15.1 innings pitched with nine walks, 16 strikeouts and a 9.39 ERA.

Newberry will counter with freshamn southpaw Robert Westenrieder (Taylors, S.C.). Westenrieder is 1-2 with a 6.31 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched while walking 17 and striking out 22. Opposing batters are hitting .304 against him this season.
