The Wolves are coming off of their first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over the GRU Augusta Jaguars. Senior lefthanded pitcher Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) was masterful in the win tossing seven innings of one-run baseball while allowing only one unearned run, striking out six and not surrendering a walk. Junior Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) closed the door on the Jags in the ninth to pick up his first save of the season. Junior Nolan Schrenker (Valrico, Fla.) did with the bat, delivering the blow that gave Newberry the win with a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Trojans are coming off of a disappointing opening weekend with two losses to the UNC Pembroke Braves. Anderson dropped the first decision 11-5 and the second in a 6-5 contest. LJ Newman and Kyle Bailey led the way offensively as the each tallied four hits. Preseason All-SAC selection Steven Cooper belted the Trojans lone home run on the weekend. Red-shirt freshman Nick Contafio and junior college transfer Cody Sheffield will get their first starts in Anderson uniforms this weekend while righthander David Thompson will make his second start of the season. Last weekend versus UNC Pembroke, Thompson threw five complete innings without allowing an earned run and striking out four UNCP batters.
Newberry will counter with senior righthand Jonathan Rosenberger on Friday night. The Anderson, S.C., native will make his first start of the season. He pitched 3.2 innings in relief last weekend allowing five hits and four runs, three of which were earned, while walking two and striking out one. Fellow seniors Cole Cromer (North Augusta, S.C.) and Camp will get leather on Saturday. Newberry will look to senior third baseman Brandan Sheridan (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Schrenker to lead the Wolves offensively. Sheridan tallied three hits including a double last weekend while Schrenker put up two hits in four trips to plate with a home run and two runs batted in.
