PEMBROKE, N.C. – Newberry College left-handed pitcher Wesley Camp has been named to the 2015 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Southeast Region team, as announced Friday afternoon.

The Pelion native becomes the first ever Newberry College player to earn the accolade.

Camp was outstanding in 2014, tossing 100.2 innings and earning a 2.32 ERA after only giving up 45 runs, 26 of which were earned. He started off the season with seven straight wins and concluded the year with an 8-3 overall record in 13 starts. His 66 strikeouts led the team while only surrendering 16 walks. The senior threw three complete games, including a 4-0 shutout of Brevard.

Camp is one of four South Atlantic Conferece players listed on the 2015 team. He joins Catawba starting pitcher Craig Brooks and Lenoir-Rhyne second baseman Brantley Runford and outfielder Ivan Vieitez.

Newberry was also recognized in the NCBWA Preseason Poll which was also released Friday afternoon. The Wolves come in as the No. 10 team in the Southeast Region to start the 2015 season.

The Wolves join Catawba and Wingate as the only three teams from the South Atlantic Conference to be represented in the poll.

Newberry is coming off of a 30-win campaign in 2014, the first 30-win season since 1999. With position player Albert Baur and Camp returning with the bulk of the pitching staff, the 2015 season could turn into one of the best seasons in the history of Newberry College baseball.

Camp and the Wolves start the season January 31 when they travel to GRU Augusta for a single game starting at 2 p.m. Newberry returns home to the Smith Road Complex on February 1 to face the Jaguars with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
