NEWBERRY - The Newberry College athletic department will adjust two spring sports' opening dates for the 2015 season, as announced Monday.

New legislation passed at last weekend's NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., allows Division II schools to start spring seasons on the Friday prior to February 1 when that date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Nearly 87 percent of votes were in favor of the new rule.

With the legislation opening up January 30 and 31 for competition this season, the Newberry baseball and tennis teams announce the following schedule adjustments.

BASEBALL
The Wolves' season will now start at GRU Augusta on Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m. in Augusta, Ga. This game was originally scheduled for the following Monday, but the rescheduled contest avoids missed class time. The Wolves' home opener is still scheduled for Sunday, February 1, at 2 p.m. against GRU Augusta.
