ROCK HILL - Newberry College infielder Albert Baur has earned South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Baur, a sophomore from Philadelphia, Pa., and a graduate of Neumann-Goretti High School, helped lead the Wolves to a 3-2 week and was instrumental in the series-closing win over Carson-Newman.
He hit .500 on the week (10-for-20) with 11 RBIs, three homeruns, two doubles and four runs scored. He went 3-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's win over Pfeiffer and was 4-for-5 with a pair of three-run homeruns on the way to seven RBIs and three runs scored in the wild win over Benedict. In Saturday's series finale with Carson-Newman, he gave Newberry a lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer and won the game with a walkoff two-run double.
Baur leads the conference with 48 RBIs and 68 hits and is fourth in the conference with a .374 batting average. He is also in the top 10 in the conference in runs scored, doubles, homeruns and slugging percentage.
