AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Newberry Wolves blasted out 20 hits and put up four runs in the eighth inning to earn a 13-9 win over the Augusta State Jaguars at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Newberry is now 17-13 on the season and earns the season sweep over the Jaguars (10-18) for the second straight season. The Wolves' next action comes in a South Atlantic Conference series at Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday and Saturday. Friday's single game is slated to start at 6 p.m., with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.

Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) continued his offensive onslaught, going 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Ryan Cranmer (Newport, N.C.) had two hits including a two-run homerun - his seventh of the season.

Matt Gaine (Goshen, N.Y.), Zach Morgan (Greenville, S.C.), Bradley Nichols (Winter Springs, Fla.) and Andy Vogel (Marietta, Ga.) also all had two hits apiece.

The Wolves' night did not get off to a fantastic start, despite Baur's RBI triple in the first inning. Augusta scored four runs in the bottom of the inning and pushed the lead to 5-1 after two innings on a sacrifice fly. Cranmer's two-run bomb to left-center in the third cut the Jaguars' lead to 5-3, but the hosts added another run in the bottom of the frame to get out to a 6-3 advantage.

Newberry came back to tie the game at 6-all when Camp, Jermale Paige (Walterboro, S.C.) and Vogel scored in the top of the fourth. Augusta scored another two runs in the bottom of the fourth before the scarlet and gray began their comeback.

Nichols' two-out RBI single in the sixth cut the lead to 8-7 and a Paige RBI groundout in the seventh tied the game. Cranmer led off the eighth with a single and Baur's RBI double gave the Wolves the lead. Gaine would hit a two-run single and come around to score on a wild pitch to give Newberry a 12-8 edge. Eric Barbieri (Marlton, N.J.) hit an RBI single in the ninth to complete the Wolves' scoring.

The Jags loaded the bases and scored a run on a hit batsman in the ninth. Augusta had the tying run at the plate when Tyler Sturkie (West Columbia, S.C.) came in from the bullpen and induced a double play to earn his fourth save of the season and second save this week.

Cole Cromer (North Augusta, S.C.) got the win in front of friends and family with 3.0 innings of relief and allowing only two hits.
