WINGATE, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves took the first game of Saturday's South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with a 4-3 win, but the Wingate Bulldogs came back for a deficit for a 6-5 win in the second game to take the series.

Newberry falls to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in SAC play, while Wingate is now 11-9 and 6-3 in the league. Newberry travels to Benedict on Tuesday and hosts Limestone on Wednesday before hosting Tusculum in next weekend's SAC series.

Game One: Newberry 4, Wingate 3
Jonathan Rosenberger (Anderson, S.C.) moved his record to 3-0, striking out eight Bulldogs in seven innings as the Wolves took the day's first game.

Newberry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Jermale Paige (Walterboro, S.C.) scored when Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) reached on an error and Zach Morgan (Greenville, S.C.) and Chas Goodwin (Greer, S.C.) brought home a pair with back-to-back bases loaded walks.

WU's Blake Prince hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to cut it to 3-1, and the Wolves loaded the bases with one out in the third but left them full. Baur hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to push the Wolves' lead to 4-1.

Brad Cherry hit an RBI triple for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth and a Josh Clark RBI double cut the lead down to one run in the eighth, but reliever Matt Chapman (Summerville, S.C.) left the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth to give the Wolves the win.

Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Eric Barbieri (Marlton, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Paige and Goodwin each earned two hits.

Game Two: Wingate 6, Newberry 5
The Wolves held a lead going into the bottom of the seventh in the short game to close out the series, but the Bulldogs plated the game winner on a bases loaded walk to take the series.

Newberry jumped on Wingate starter T.J. Rinoski with a Paige double, Camp reaching on an error and a Ryan Cranmer (Newport, N.C.) RBI double. Baur hit an RBI groundout to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead.

Cherry cut it to 2-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. Baur hit an RBI single in the third and a Brandan Sheridan (Jacksonville, Fla.) RBI groundout pushed Newberry's advantage to 4-1. Wingate plated a pair in the bottom of the inning on an RBI bunt by Thomas Spitz and a run-scoring single from Brian Yeung to make it 4-3.

Barbieri singled to lead off the seventh and pinch-runner Anthony Siler (Longwood, Fla.) scored on a Goodwin groundout to give the Wolves a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the crucial inning. Unfortunately for the scarlet and gray, a Yeung RBI single cut the lead to one, a Clark single, an error tied the game and a walk loaded the bases. A bases loaded walk on a full count gave the hosts the win.

Starter Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work on six hits, striking out five. Camp (0-2) was hit with the loss.
