The Wolves have also jumped into the top 10 in the region according to the NCBWA and D2BaseballNews.com.
Roberts, a sophomore from Myrtle Beach, earned South Atlantic Conference pitcher of the week honors Tuesday after his performance in Newberry's first win of a three-game sweep of nationally-ranked Catawba.
In Saturday's series-opening win, Roberts went 7.0 innings and gave up only three hits and an unearned run while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts.
For the season, Roberts has a 2-1 record with a 1.88 earned run average with opposing batters hitting .248 against him. He leads the conference with 28.2 innings pitched in four starts with a complete game in the win at Mars Hill. His 24 strikeouts on the year are the fourth most in the league, and the Wolves are the only team in the conference without a league loss through the first two series of the year.
In the regional polls, the Wolves are ranked eighth in the NCBWA regional poll and ninth in the D2BaseballNews.com regional poll. This is the first time in available records Newberry has been in these polls.
