SAVANNAH, Ga. - Newberry College's Kevin Rufus has been named to the 2012 Southeast Region Gold Glove Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association, it was announced today.
Rufus (Andrews, S.C.) recently completed his collegiate elgibility after two years at Newberry. In his two seasons, Rufus had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 217 chances with four outfield assists. In 2012, he had 83 putouts with two assists.
He was also a 2012 South Atlantic Conference Gold Glove honoree. At the plate, he led the Wolves with a .362 batting average and four homeruns. He also reached base freely as he was hit by pitches 19 times and walked 23 times for a .509 on-base percentage, ranking 21st nationally in Division II. He stole 16 bases, had 29 RBIs and scored 36 runs in 40 games.
For his career, Rufus hit .324 with 43 RBIs, eight homeruns, 13 doubles and a .477 OBP. He stole 27 bases and scored 92 runs in 88 games played.
