Wolves fall twice in season finale doubleheader to No. 1 Mount Olive
Monday, May 7, 2012

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves' baseball team fell twice in the season-ending doubleheader to the No. 1-ranked Mount Olive Trojans at the Smith Road Complex on Monday, 13-2 in the first game and 10-2 in the second game.

Newberry's season comes to an end with a record of 20-31.

Game One: Mount Olive 13, Newberry 2
The Trojans evened up the series by jumping out to an early lead and continually pulling away. In a matchup of two top-notch pitchers, it was the Trojans who were able to win battles on both offense and defense.

Mount Olive led 3-0 after two innings and managed 10 runs in 5.0 innings off of Josh McElwee (Andrews, S.C.) on 13 singles, three walks and two errors as the senior wrapped up his career with 318 career strikeouts and 97 K's this season.

Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) had a first inning single but was stranded at scoring position. Mount Olive starter Zach Smith proceeded to retire the next 13 batters to help the Trojans pulled out to a large lead.

Pinch hitter DJ Roberts (Chapin, S.C.) led off the bottom of the eighth with a double down the left field line and came around to score on a Robby Scaggs (North Augusta, S.C.) sacrifice fly.

Hunter Porter (Ballentine, S.C.) reached on a walk in the ninth and Wilbur Caldwell (Newberry, S.C.) singled. Porter scored when Roberts reached on an error.

Caldwell went 3-for-4 in the game.
