Wolves drop doubleheader at No. 23 Catawba
Sunday, March 4, 2012

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves' baseball squad was swept in the Sunday doubleheader of their South Atlantic Conference series at No. 23 Catawba, with the Indians taking wins by scores of 10-2 and 4-3.

Newberry falls to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in league play. The Wolves start a five-game homestand on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they host Pfeiffer.

Game One: No. 23 Catawba 10, Newberry 2
The hosts put up four runs in the first inning and never looked back on the way to a win in the first game of the twinbill.

Garrett Furr, Keaton Hawks and Ethan Satterfield touched Newberry up for four first inning runs, and Catawba tacked on another run in the second.

The Wolves scratched two runs across in the top of the third when Robby Scaggs (North Augusta, S.C.) brought runners home by reaching on an error.

Unfortunately for the Wolves a two-run double by Chris Dula and a Satterfield three-run homer in the fourth put the game on ice, as Newberry could only get two runners in scoring position in the final four innings.

Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) went 2-for-3 and was the only player for the scarlet and gray to get multiple hits. Will Robbins (Winnsboro, S.C; 0-2) was tagged with the loss.

Catawba took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out rally with a two-run single by Greg Lawson and Beard scoring on a wild pitch.

Catawba took advantage of two walks to lead off the bottom of the seventh and a bunt single loaded the bases. Beard's single put an end to the game.
