NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves closed out a 4-1 homestand with a 4-2 non-conference win over the No. 21 Georgia College Bobcats at the Smith Road Complex on Tuesday.

Newberry is now 8-8 on the season heading into a road South Atlantic Conference series with No. 23 Catawba on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game at Catawba's Newman Park is set for a 6 p.m. start, with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.

Newberry starter Mario Rojas (Miami, Fla.) moved to 2-1 on the season after scattering seven hits and three walks through 7.2 innings, giving up only one earned run.

The one run came in the top of the fourth, when Bobcats catcher Benton Yaun hit an RBI single to give the guests a 1-0 lead.

The Wolves won the game with three runs in the fifth, courtesy of three walks and a first-and-third double steal. Matt Gaine (Goshen, N.Y.) and Wilbur Caldwell (Newberry, S.C.) started the inning with walks and moved into scoring position on a Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) sacrifice bunt.

Robby Scaggs (North Augusta, S.C.) loaded the bases with a walk and Andy Vogel (Marietta, Ga.) tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Caldwell and Scaggs perfectly executed the first-and-third play to give Newberry a 2-1 lead and Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) put the lead at 3-1 with an RBI double.

The scarlet and gray added an insurance run in the seventh when Camp led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Scaggs' RBI single to right-center put the run at 4-1.

Newberry closer Tyler Sturkie (West Columbia, S.C.) came in the ninth inning to get the save, but not without some drama. The Bobcats' first two runners reached and Jake Sandlin scored while Vogel turned an excellent double play. Sturkie was able to strike out designated hitter Cody Maas and pick up his fourth save of the season.

Brandan Sheridan (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 3-for-4 in the game, while Baur had two hits. Newberry hitters drew five walks.
