GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves found them on the wrong side of an extra inning game for the second straight night, as the Lander Bearcats earned a 10-9 win in the 10th inning.

Newberry falls to 1-2 on the season entering Tuesday's home opener against Barton (2-2) at 3 p.m.

Josh McElwee (Andrews, S.C.) got his first career start in the infield and went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Andy Vogel (Marietta, Ga.) was 2-for-6 with three RBIs. Kevin Rufus (Andrews, S.C.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Wolves jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning, with McElwee smacking a two-out triple and coming home on a single by Robby Scaggs (North Augusta, S.C.).

Newberry extended the lead in the third inning with four straight singles. Zach Morgan (Simpsonville, S.C.) started with an infield single followed by a Rufus bunt single. Wesley Camp's (Pelion, S.C.) single to center loaded the bases and a two-run single to left by Vogel pushed the Wolves' lead to 3-0.

Lander was held off of the scoreboard until a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth tied the game. Erik Lunde was walked and Thomas Berry was hit by a pitch before Patrick Grady snuck a homerun ball over the left field wall for the first homer in Dolny Stadium history.

The long ball was the Bearcats' friend once again in the sixth inning as Weston Lawing and AJ Nunziato each hit homers to left to take the lead to 5-3.

Newberry had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh as the Wolves left runners on second and third before Lander scored three runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Harvey, a sacrifice fly by Nunziato and a run-scoring single by Jeff May to take an 8-3 lead.

The scarlet and gray loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with one out on a McElwee single, a Scaggs walk and a Morgan single. Rufus was walked to earn an RBI and narrow the deficit to 8-4.

After a strikeout by Camp, Vogel hit an RBI infield single to shortstop to cut the lead to 8-5, and Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) was hit with an errant pitch to make it an 8-6 game. A walk by Hunter Cox (Andrews, S.C.) made it an 8-7 game before McElwee popped out as the 10th batter of the inning.

Lander was able to add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with runners on the corners and one out, when a wild pitch scored Lunde to make it 9-7.

Gaine was hit by a pitch and pinch runner Alex Kirby (Chapin, S.C.) advanced to second on a groundout. Rufus would hit an RBI double off of the high right field wall to cut the lead to 9-8 and pinch hitter Wilbur Caldwell (Newberry, S.C.) hit a bloop single down the right field line to plat Rufus and tie the game at 9-all.

Lander could not score in the bottom of the ninth to send the second straight game of the series to extra innings.

Newberry got a runner on base in the top of the 10th and couldn't score. Lunde led off the bottom of the frame for the Bearcats with a double and advanced to third a groundout. After an intentional walk, Newberry reliever Tyler Sturkie (West Columbia, S.C.) induced a ground ball, but the Wolves couldn't turn the double play in time, giving the Bearcats the 10-9 win.
