LYNCHBURG, Va. and MIDLAND, Mich. - Former Newberry College baseball players Thomas Berryhill and Casio Grider have been named to minor league Opening Day rosters as the pair each begin their third seasons in professional baseball.
Berryhill starts 2011 with the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, playing in the Carolina League. He was a fifth round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft by the Braves. The Hillcats will be Berryhill's fourth professional team, although he completed the 2010 season in the same league. The Braves organization moved from Myrtle Beach to Lynchburg starting with this season. In Berryhill's professional career, he has a 5-3 pitching record with five saves in 41 appearances with a 4.73 ERA. He begins the season on the seven-day disabled list.

Grider will start the 2011 season with the Great Lakes Loons, the Class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, playing in the Midwest League's Eastern Division. He was a 14th round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft by the Dodgers. The Loons will be Grider's third professional team, marking a promotion from the Ogden Raptors at the end of 2010. Grider hit .281 last season, appearing in 62 games for the Raptors and collecting 71 hits with 14 doubles, three doubles and four homeruns. He also stole 22 bases.
