STAUNTON, Va. - After his appearance in Sunday's Valley Baseball League All-Star game, Newberry College's Chris Love has been named as a representative from the Rockbridge Rapids to play in the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Classic on Wednesday evening in Bethesda, Md.
The VBL will once again take on an All-Star team from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Baseball League in the Mid-Atlantic Classic. Last season, the Ripken All-Stars took the inaugural contest 2-1 in a game played at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md.
Love, who started at third base in the Valley League's All-Star game on Sunday, leads his Rockbridge Rapids team with a .287 batting average in 26 games with three homers, eight doubles and 13 RBIs. He ranks in the top 30 in the league in batting average.
The second-ever edition of the game will played this season at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, the home of the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken League. The VBL selected a 31-man roster to head to Bethesda for the contest and all 11 teams in the league are represented by at least one hitter and one pitcher.
