HARRISONBURG, Va. - Newberry College infielder Chris Love, who is playing his summer baseball with the Rockbridge Rapids, has been named to the Valley Baseball League South All-Stars and will play in the league's All-Star Game on Sunday.
Love, a rising senior from Columbia, S.C., has carried the Rapids offense on his back for the majority of the season, leading the team in average (.312), at-bats (93), hits (29), doubles (8), homeruns (3) and slugging percentage (.495). He has the second best average with runners on base, and is second in total RBIs. Love played the last three Valley League summers in Fauquier, a team that no longer exists, and this is his first All-Star game.
The Valley Baseball League All-Star Game will be hosted by the Harrisonburg Turks on Sunday, July 11, at Eagle Field in Veterans Memorial Park on James Madison University's campus.
The annual game, which pits players selected from the six southern-most teams in the league against a squad chosen from the five northern-most teams, will feature 25-team squads and free substitution.
