ROCKBRIDGE, Va. - Newberry College infielder Chris Love emerged as a team leader on the diamond in the 2010 season and has headed to the Valley Baseball League in Virginia to further hone his skills in preparation for the Wolves' 2011 season. On Saturday, Love proved he was not just a leader on the field for his summer team, but a leader in the community as well.

Love, a corner infielder from Columbia who will be a senior in 2011, currently leads the Rockbridge Rapids in batting average, hitting at a .298 clip in 13 games with a homer and three doubles. On Saturday, Love and Rapids teammate Mac Hunter of Davidson College took time to head to the Buena Vista Branch of the Rockbridge Regional Library to read baseball books to local children.

The children sat and listened to baseball tales from their local baseball idols before a quick autograph session. The Rapids brought baseballs to sign for the kids, but were pleasantly surprised when most of the kids brought their own for Love and Hunter to sign.
