NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College head baseball coach Bob Rikeman is pleased to announce the team's 2010 Fan Appreciation Day will take place this coming Sunday, January 31, beginning at 2 p.m. The Fan Appreciation Day will take place at the Smith Road Complex and will officially kick off the 2010 season.

Events will begin with players who are draft eligible conducting drills for major league scouts at 2 p.m. As those players are working out, the remaining Newberry players will be in the stands to explain the drills to young players and sign autographs. Following the drills, a five-inning intrasquad scrimmage will take place at approximately 2:45 p.m. as a preview for the 2010 season. Opening Day is set for Tuesday, February 2, at 2 p.m. against Benedict College.

After the completion of the scrimmage, fans will be invited to come down to the field to interact with the entire team, including playing catch with the players, so make sure to bring your glove! Kids can also have their picture taken in an authentic Newberry baseball uniform and hat near home plate and autograph sheets will be distributed so kids can get the autograph of their favorite player.

Fans who enter the gates between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. can enter their name in a drawing for a pair of 2010 Newberry College baseball season tickets. The drawing will take place at 4:30 p.m. and you must be present to win the tickets.

Early weather forecasts predict Sunday afternoon to be a clear day, so we look forward to seeing you and your family at the Smith Road Complex to meet this year's team!
