NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College Alumni Baseball game was played on February 17th at the new Smith Road Complex. Over 25 Newberry alumni participated in the inaugural alumni game for this new park.
“We could not have ordered better weather for the middle of February”, says Associate Athletic Director Matt DeWitt. “The alumni and their families took full advantage of the opportunity to relive their glory days on the diamond.”
The game, which began at 3 p.m., was chock full of big plays and excitable fans. The smell of hotdogs and hamburgers filled the air and all in attendance where treated to a good time.
“It was great to see former and current players interact and be able to relate to each other through baseball”, said head baseball coach Bob Rikeman, “I am already looking forward to next year’s event.”
The next home event at the Smith Road Complex will be on Tuesday, February 26, when the Indians host nationally-ranked Georgia College and State University. All proceeds from the game will be donate to Relay for Life.
