NEWBERRY, S.C. - The much-anticipated opening of the baseball stadium at the Smith Road Complex will take place on Tuesday, February 5, as the Newberry College Indians take on the Patriots of Francis Marion University at 7 p.m.
The Grand Opening Day game has also been dubbed "City of Newberry Night," as all Newberry residents will be admitted free of charge, provided they pick up their free tickets at the Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism office at 1328 College Street. Free tickets will be available up to the day of the game.
Following a presentation of the colors from the ROTC Highlander Battalion and the ceremonial first pitch from Nelson Rickenbaker (Class of 1984), the Indians will play their first true home game since April 19, 2005.
Hopefully the Indians will provide fireworks on the field, though fireworks are guaranteed for all in attendance. At the completion of the game, there will be a ten-minute firework show provided by Melrose Pyrotechnics of Catawba, S.C. And as always, there will be promotions and prizes for attendees of all ages.
